Here at Paradise Wildlife Park, we are excited to announce that we have received a record-breaking four awards from The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA). With us being awarded two golds and two silver awards for our efforts in conservation. This is an amazing achievement and an incredible testament to the dedicated team at the zoo.
The park was awarded the highest recognition of gold for our actions in positive conversations and conservation in mainstream media. Our pr and marketing campaign about the birth of the red panda Tashi reached over 140 news outlets worldwide and allowed us to spread the word about the need for species survival and the protection of wild habitats. Here at Paradise we also received gold in diversity and inclusion for providing accessible education in our Key to Conservation Days. Both gold awards have actively made a difference in individuals’ lives and species’ survival.
We are also proud to announce we have received silver awards in our animal breeding programme where our bird-keeping team saw the first two chicks of black Hornbills hatch across the European breeding program for two years. As well we received a silver award in sustainability for using offcuts from our newest habitats of Sun Bear Heights and Jaguar Jungle to create swift boxes for local schools to promote British wildlife species’ survival.
The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) is the professional body representing zoos and aquariums. They have more than 100 members whom they support in their commitment to conservation, education and research, including Paradise Wildlife Park. For any zoo or aquarium receiving an award from the body is a significant achievement acknowledging the work that is carried out.
Overall these awards are an incredible achievement and we are very proud to continue to carry out work which directly supports conservation efforts whilst exhibiting the continuous work that good zoos can do. As we move towards our re-brand next year to Hertfordshire Zoo these awards are a great start to show the wonder of wildlife.
