Hertfordshire Zoo is hiring two Trainee Cover Keepers on a casual basis to support animal care across five main sections, including Large Carnivores, Primates, and Reptiles. Ideal for those seeking hands-on zoo experience, duties include daily husbandry, enclosure maintenance, record-keeping, public talks, and supporting site operations. Applicants must be reliable, adaptable, and passionate about animal care and visitor engagement. Relevant qualifications and previous zoo or animal experience are essential. Roles are 3–4 days/week, including weekends and school holidays. Pay is National Minimum Wage, with staff benefits. Candidates must have a UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.

Hertfordshire Zoo is seeking an experienced animal keeper to join our Primates & Small Mammals team on a fixed-term contract. You’ll be part of a passionate team delivering exceptional animal care and visitor experiences. Duties include husbandry, enrichment, record-keeping, public talks, enclosure upkeep, and supervising volunteers. You’ll also support general site operations. Candidates must have a relevant animal science qualification, at least 2 years’ experience with relevant species in a zoo setting, strong communication and record-keeping skills, and a flexible, team-oriented approach. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Hertfordshire Zoo, in partnership with the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC), is seeking a passionate and organised Species Survival Officer to support species conservation efforts across the UK.
This exciting role, based at the Centre for Species Survival: UK, involves delivering IUCN’s Assess–Plan–Act approach to conservation. The successful candidate will help assess extinction risks, develop action plans, and coordinate efforts with expert networks, NGOs, and government bodies. Duties include facilitating stakeholder workshops, supporting national and global conservation campaigns, contributing to reporting and data systems, and promoting public engagement through communications such as blogs and social media.
Applicants should have a relevant degree (e.g., conservation biology, ecology) and at least 2 years’ experience in conservation or a related field. Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential. Familiarity with IUCN tools, GIS, and international collaboration is desirable.
