Hertfordshire Zoo Opens State of the Art New "Gibbons: Song of the Forest" Habitat

For its 40th anniversary, Hertfordshire Zoo is thrilled to announce the grand opening of their new habitat, “Gibbons: Song of the Forest,” on the 16th of August, which was opened by Lewis Cocking, MP for Broxbourne. This immersive jungle environment is now home to three Critically Endangered Northern white-cheeked gibbons: Ethan, Newt, and Ripley.

Lewis Cocking MP stated: “ I am proud to support conservation and the education about wildlife at Hertfordshire Zoo.”

Unfortunately, gibbons are one of the most endangered species of ape and are Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red list. One of the primary reasons for the widespread endangerment of the gibbon species’ is due to habitat loss, often a result of forest destruction and fragmentation as well as illegal hunting.
