Information regarding our Christmas Wonderland

When is the Christmas at Hertfordshire Zoo taking place?

Christmas at Hertfordshire Zoo runs on the 29th and 30th November, and 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th December 2025.

What’s included in my visit?

Your Christmas ticket includes entry to the zoo, access to all festive areas, including the Christmas Walkway, light displays, and the chance to meet Santa in his Grotto and receive a special gift (for families with a Grotto ticket).

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, tickets are limited and selling fast, so we strongly recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred date and Grotto timeslot.

Can I meet Santa?

Absolutely! Children can meet Father Christmas in his Grotto and will receive a special gift to take home in your prebooked designated timeslot.

Is meeting Santa included in the standard zoo ticket?

Meeting Santa is an add-on experience, you’ll need to select a Christmas ticket when booking your visit and choose your time slot.

Will the Grinch be there?

Yes! The Grinch will visit every Sunday throughout the event on the 29th November and, 7th, 14th and 21st December 2025. He’ll be roaming the zoo for meet-and-greets and festive photo opportunities.

What other festive experiences are there?

Visitors can enjoy:

  • A Christmas Walkway with twinkling decorations and glowing displays.
  • Dazzling light shows and festive animatronics.
  • Hot festive snacks, rich hot chocolate, and toasted marshmallows by the fire.
Are the animals still viewable during the event?

Yes, all your favourite animals will still be out and about in our World of Animals! The event combines festive fun with our usual zoo experience.

Is food and drink available?

Yes. Our catering outlets will be open, serving festive treats, hot food, drinks, and snacks throughout the day.

What should I wear?

It’s an outdoor event, so we recommend warm clothing, waterproofs, and comfy footwear for exploring the zoo and light displays.

Can I use my annual pass for this event?

Annual pass holders can use their pass for zoo entry, but there is an additional charge for Santa’s Grotto and certain festive activities.

Can I use my Blue Light discount on Christmas tickets?

Yes! To redeem your Blue Light discount, please email info@hertfordshirezoo.com, and our team will be happy to help.

Is the zoo open as normal aside from the Christmas event?

Yes, you can still visit the zoo as usual with a standard day ticket outside of the Christmas experience.

Can I use my Blue Peter Badge on Christmas tickets?

Yes! To claim your Blue Peter Badge discount, please email info@hertfordshirezoo.com before booking.

Are you open on Christmas Eve?

Yes, we’re open until 2:30pm on Christmas Eve.

Can I upgrade on the day?

Yes, upgrades are available on the day however, availability is limited, so we recommend booking online in advance to avoid disappointment.

Does my under-2 get in free to the Christmas event?

Yes, children under 2 go free, but they do not receive a Christmas gift unless you purchase an Under 2 Including Gift ticket.
