Full-Time Keeper – Primates & Small Mammals


Hertfordshire Zoo is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic animal keeper to join our Primates & Small Mammals team. This full-time, permanent role offers the opportunity to work with an exciting range of species alongside a passionate, professional team dedicated to high standards of welfare and visitor engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver excellent animal husbandry, welfare, feeding, cleaning, and enrichment routines
• Maintain trained behaviours as directed by the Section Leader/Deputy
• Provide engaging visitor talks and animal experiences
• Keep accurate animal records and observations
• Support and supervise volunteers and students
• Carry out enclosure and site maintenance, safety duties, and general cleaning

Requirements (Essential):
– An animal science-related qualification
Minimum 3 years relevant species experience in a zoological collection
– Excellent communication skills (both 1-1 and public speaking) and a great team player
– Excellent proven record-keeping skills
– Adaptable for a flexible rota, physically fit for the demands of this role and happy working outside in all weathers
– Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (as HZ is not accessible by public transport)
– In line with the requirements of the Asylum & Immigration Act 1996, all applicants must have existing rights to reside and work in the UK.

Details:
• Permanent, full-time (average 37.5 hrs/week, 3-week rota)
• Salary £24,603.15 to £25,288.25 p.a. depending on skills and experience
• 28 days annual leave, staff benefits, and conservation travel opportunities

Content Creator (Permanent, Full-Time)


Hertfordshire Zoo is seeking a creative, organised, and driven Content Creator to support our Zoo, The Big Cat Sanctuary, and our wider conservation mission. This role is central to the growth of our digital platforms, capturing the daily life of our animals, people, and projects, and transforming it into engaging content for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and beyond.

You’ll also work with the Whitnall family (Ty, Aaron, and Cam), featured on CBBC’s One Zoo Three, supporting them in producing inspiring content that highlights their work alongside the Zoo’s conservation story.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, film, and edit original photo/video content for social media.
  • Produce compelling digital storytelling showcasing wildlife, people, and conservation.
  • Monitor trends and pitch fresh, creative ideas.
  • Support campaigns with our Senior Content Creator to grow reach and engagement.
  • Capture behind-the-scenes content at Hertfordshire Zoo and The Big Cat Sanctuary.
  • Manage an organised media library and support occasional UK/international conservation coverage.

About You:

  • Skilled videographer/editor (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or similar).
  • Confident with DSLR/mirrorless cameras.
  • Social-first content expertise across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Passionate about wildlife and conservation, with excellent storytelling skills.
  • Organised, adaptable, and confident working both independently and in a team.
  • Full driving licence and right to work in the UK required.

🎅 Santa Work at Hertfordshire Zoo 🎅


Hertfordshire Zoo is on the lookout for jolly, enthusiastic, and festive individuals to bring the magic of Christmas to life as Santa Claus at our much-loved Christmas events in Broxbourne.

As Santa, you’ll be the star of our enchanting grotto – welcoming excited children, listening to Christmas wishes, and spreading joy and cheer to families, helping create truly unforgettable memories.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A warm, friendly personality with plenty of festive spirit
  • Confidence in engaging with children and families
  • Reliability and professionalism
  • Previous performance or grotto experience (preferred, but not essential)

Dates of  Work:

  • 29th & 30th November
  • 6th & 7th December
  • 13th & 14th December
  • 20th–24th December*
