Sunday the 5th of June 2022, marks World Environment Day, a very important day across the world. World Environment Day is a day that puts a global spotlight on the pressing environmental challenges we are all currently facing. This United Nations international day has become the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with millions of people from across the world coming together to engage to protect the planet.
World Environment Day on 5 June is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1973, the event has continued to grow and now in its 50th year it is more important than ever to listen to the voices calling for change. It marks 50 years since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, widely seen as the first meeting to actively change and work together to reverse the environmental damage being caused.
World Environment Day has become a global platform for inspiring positive change. With over 150 countries participating, this UN international day engages governments, businesses, civil society, schools, celebrities, cities and communities, raising awareness and celebrating environmental action. Anyone and everyone can be drivers of change through their support changes for good and helping to support positive environmental changes. 2022 is a historic milestone for the global environmental community. “Only One Earth” was the slogan for the 1972 Stockholm Conference; 50 years on, this truth still holds – this planet is our only home.

Here at Paradise Wildlife Park, we understand the impact and the need for positive Environmental change and positive impacts these can create. We hold a sustainability committee which actively works together to look at the running of the Park and how we can change our everyday workings to be more environmentally friendly. This is through critically looking at ourselves and changing for the better, as we wish to highlight how through small changes we can make a big impact. From this we have moved away from single use plastic across the park, you will also see reclaimed sustainable wood for signage starting to appear as we look toward reuse. As well as working with external companies to create sustainable and environmentally friendly animal enrichment. We also work with a wide variety of conservation partners across the globe such as Snow Leopard Trust who work to actively support the work in conserving and protecting the environmental habitats all species live in.
