Reception and Foundation Education Sessions
If you're looking for a fun and educational school trip for your pupils, look no further! Our zoo is home to a whole range of animals including penguins, meerkats, zebra, wolves and 4 species of big cat - Guaranteed to encourage your pupils to get involved and learn.
*Please note that unfortunately we no longer using live animals in our education sessions.
We aim to deliver interactive educational experiences using resources such as bio-facts and multimedia all linking to the National Curriculum.
We offer fun presentations for preschool children aged between 2-4 years. We recommend no more than 30 student per group but are happy to discuss options.
Our two preschool workshop options aim to engage the senses and encourage creative learning. Let’s give your little ones the opportunity to see, smell, hear and feel the natural world around them!
Talks are priced at £30 per group of 30 students and last around 25 minutes.
For those looking to take learning outside the classroom, we also offer ‘Mini Meets’, which can be booked as an alternative to, or alongside, classroom-based sessions. These 10–15-minute talks take place at the habitat of your chosen animal and feature a short, engaging talk delivered by one of our educators. Topics focus on Lions, Sun Bears, or Gibbons, with each session enhanced with items such as 3D-printed skulls, offering students a tactile and visual learning experience. Mini Meets are priced at £15 and have a limit of 30 students.
*Please note, that mini meets are not suitable for nursery groups and are only recommended for reception age and above.
Ever wondered what makes a mammal a mammal? Or a bird a bird? Struggling to know the difference between a reptile and an amphibian? Students will come up close and personal with a number of artefacts, such as skins and furs, to show the difference between vertebrates such as mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians in this interactive and engaging session.
Fur, Feathers and Scales meets the following areas of the National Curriculum:
• Identify and name common animals (i.e. birds, mammals)
• Describe and compare animal body structures (i.e. fish, bird).
*Please note, that Fur, Feathers, and Scales is only recommended for children aged 4 and above, due to the level of the content covered.
