Paradise Wildlife Park comes together to celebrate International Zebra Day with our Plains Zebras Wilson and Mosi. This international day acts as a great opportunity to raise awareness and understanding for the species.
On this International Zebra Day 2022, why not learn some fun facts you may not have known about the species:
There are three species of zebra, found across savannahs of Africa. Here at Paradise Wildlife Park, we have Plains Zebras; Wilson and Mosi. Plains zebras can be identified through the faint brown stripe they have between their black stripes. There are also Grevy’s zebras who are identified by thin stripes and Mountain zebras who have vertical stripes on their bodies and horizontal stripes on their legs.
Zebras are sociable animals and live within groups. A group of zebras can sometimes be known as dazzle. Zebras are mostly always seen together and follow each other as they move locations.
Similar to other hoofstock animals, zebras hold the ability to lock their joints into position and take a quick nap without falling over. This allows them to remain alert and move quickly if needed due to the presence of a predator. When a zebra wishes to achieve a deep long sleep they will lay down to rest.
Zebras can reach incredible speeds and can achieve a speed of up to 65kmph. This speed helps them to remove themselves out of the way of predators. They also are very agile and have a strong stamina to help outrun danger.
