An Evening with the Peter Sampson: The Story of Hertfordshire Zoo

01 Apr 2026

Discover the extraordinary journey of Hertfordshire Zoo

Join us for an intimate seated talk as founder Peter Sampson shares the remarkable origins of the zoo, told through the unforgettable animal stories, challenges and triumphs that shaped its early years.

Held on the anniversary of the zoo’s original purchase in 1984, this special event brings the past to life while celebrating the conservation‑driven organisation Hertfordshire Zoo has become today.

Hosted by Lynn Whitnall, the evening blends personal memories with the zoo’s evolving mission – from rescuing animals in need to pioneering modern conservation and education programmes that now reach communities across the world.

You’ll also hear from the next generation – Tyler, Aaron and Cam Whitnall – as they connect Peter’s early experiences with the zoo’s current work protecting endangered species, supporting global conservation partners and inspiring the next wave of wildlife champions.
