There’s a new star at Hertfordshire Zoo! meet Nila, a young female Red Panda who’s already winning hearts! At just one year and five months old, Nila has joined us from Národná zoologická záhrada Bojnice in Slovakia as part of the EAZA Ex-situ Programme (EEP), an international effort to protect endangered species.
She’s been paired with our resident male Red Panda, Ash, forming a vital part of global Red Panda conservation. With fewer than 10,000 Red Pandas left in the wild, every breeding success helps secure the future of this precious species.
Nila’s name honours a Nepalese conservationist whose work with the Red Panda Network, one of Hertfordshire Zoo’s key partners, supports habitat restoration and community education in Nepal.
